Coed Caerdydd Tree Donation Scheme

Estimated average cost per tree and associated works:

• Saplings: 75p to £1
• Fruit and “young” trees: £35 to £75
• Semi-mature trees: £150 to £300
• Accessories, for example, stakes, ties or mulch: £5-15
• Pit preparation works: £100 to £200

We will put donations together for tree planting projects in areas across the city. However, some examples to show what different donation amounts could provide are:

• Smaller donations (£10 to £100) can help purchase saplings for woodlands and hedgerows.
• Medium donations (£100 to £500) can help to buy semi-mature trees and tree protection supplies (such as stakes) for parks, schools and community spaces.
• Larger donations (£500 to £5,000 or more) can help contribute towards street tree planting. This includes buying trees, and essential tree pit preparation works such as removing old stumps.

Carbon capture relating to trees is complex to calculate. This is because of variations in factors such as:

• species,
• growth rate, and
• type of planting.

The following figures are a guideline only.

• On average, a mature tree captures 21kg to 31.5kg of carbon every year. This adds up to approximately 1 tonne over 100 years. This is the equivalent of driving 23,000 miles.
• Encon indicates that 1 tonne of carbon can be offset by approximately 31 to 46 mature trees per year.
• The Woodland Trust indicates that on average, a hectare of native broadleaf woodland will store 300 to 350 tonnes of carbon over 100 years (1,100 to 1,500 trees per hectare).
• Based on this, if you donated £500, that could provide 500 to 650 saplings to cover a quarter to a half hectare of woodland. After 20 years, this would capture approximately 12 to 15 tonnes of carbon per year.
• £500 could also provide 3 to 5 semi-mature trees, or 10 to 14 fruit trees – which after 5 years would capture around 75kg to 300kg of carbon per year.

Coed Caerdydd plants trees every year, between November and March.

We cannot guarantee trees will be planted in specific locations, but you are welcome to get in touch if you have suggestions or would like to find out more about ongoing projects in your area.

New areas for trees, hedgerows and woodland planting are carefully selected as part of ongoing maintenance and development of Cardiff’s tree canopy.

You can donate by phone with a debit or credit card, up to £500.

You can donate via invoice by filling in our form for larger donations from £250. There is no maximum donation amount via this option.

Making a donation

By donating, you agree to make a monetary gift to Cardiff Council for the purpose(s) stated on the website under the Coed Caerdydd project which is being donated to.

100% of your donation will go towards local initiatives. All monies donated through Ardal CWB will incur no admin cost.

Donations may only be made by those who are the account holder(s) of the account from which the donation is made, or by someone who has the permission of the account holder(s) of the account from which the donation is to be made.

Taxation

Donations are not subject to Value Added Tax (VAT).

Gift Aid

Cardiff Council is not a registered charity in England and Wales. Therefore, any donations will not have the benefit of Gift Aid.

All personal data held by us or on our behalf is held in accordance with Cardiff Council’s Privacy Policy.

Refunds

If you donate, you are entitled to a full refund of the monies within 14 days of the date on which your donation was made. Should you require a refund, please send an email to coedcaerdyddproject@cardiff.gov.uk and provide the donation reference number, which will be included on your electronic receipt.

Refusal of Donations

We reserve the right to refuse donations made which are:

• Unlawful (e.g. donations made using proceeds of crime) or not in accordance with the policies of Cardiff Council
• Made by someone who, at the time of donation, lacked mental capacity to make such a donation
• Not in accordance with the aims and purposes of the project, which can be found on the website

Limitation of liability

We will not be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential damages (even if foreseeable) whether based on contract, tort or otherwise, to the fullest extent permitted by law. This includes but is not limited to liability for: loss of data or profits; interruptions or delays to the website; the provision of or failure to provide services; any information, material, goods and services obtained through the website; or otherwise arising out of your use of the website.

Force majeure

Cardiff Council will not be in breach of its obligations under these terms and conditions, nor liable to any user of the website for any loss or damage which may be suffered by another party due to any cause beyond its reasonable control.
